Amsterdam Oud Zuid

Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

I used to live here in the 80’s. I t was fantastic with the Albert Kuijp market and all the little shops, especially the sweet shop half way down where they sold the dark chocolate covered coffee beans, YUM! I think it is a little more up-market now. I always loved the sense of community and the location can’t be beaten.

A tip I have about this place

I lived here for 2 years. What a fantastic country. Don’t miss the elephant sanctuary outside KL, a special place where sheer comercialism has not yet taken hold and the people who run the sanctary work from the heart. You can play with the elephants in the river, and experience of a life time for me. Hire a car take a pic-nic and go but get good directions, there is a coach that goes once a day but despite the huge price tag they do not pass this on to the sanctuary as when I last visited entry was by donation. The Perhentian Islands are beautiful especially Kuala Bessar. Stay with Aziz in his Mamma’s Bungalows, the best scuba and snorkelling.

Iran

Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

Before the Shah was deposed I went to stay with my school friend sarah who lived in Tehran. I had several other Iranian friends from school. I loved the country and was overwhelmed by the hospitality and beauty of both the people and the landscape. The food is delicious, I especially loved going to buy bread at the bakery when they pulled it fresh off the walls of the oven.We would take it home and devour the lot with a delicious yoghurt based dip.Going out to the mountains outside Tehran was a journey both in beauty and time. I would love to visit Iran again.
