Women & Children First was my favorite bookstore in Chicago and was located in Andersonville. I heard Lani Guinier speak there. Hope it’s still open.

They have a great library that’s open to the public.

Chicago is a big city with a hometown feel, the neighborhoods are distinct, each having their own character. It’s cold, but I barely felt it with all there was to distract me. I miss the extensive public transportation system, the people on the streets at all hours, having my fill of all the movies I could ever imagine wanting to see, Boy’s Town, Women & Children First Bookstore, grocery stores….I lived here for a year and I’m contemplating a return.

Only because if you don’t go, you’ll always be curious. Personally, it’s a bit over the top for me. And what’s with all the fire-based entertainment? Isn’t it hot enough already?

I visited when I was deciding where to go to grad school and was definitely moved by the atmosphere and architecture of a place so aware of its own prestige.

So not worth it. I hated posing for the photograph. It was a hot, strained day that I’d rather forget.

I was here in the summer of 2005, walking around in a haze of heartache. I discovered an unattractive side of someone I loved and a weak side of myself that took me by surprise. I might return one day when I have a clearer head and the painful memories have faded.
