I visited pre-Katrina, during Mardi Gras in 2002. I went alone and stayed at a youth hostel near the Garden District. It was the best trip I’ve ever been on. Going alone was risky, but worth it. I got to decide what I wanted to do and got to go where I wanted to go. I don’t know what it’s really like these days, but I’m hoping to go back soon.
