It was our honeymoon. We had a wonderful two week holiday there, but that was 10 years ago now. I’d love to go back to see if it’s changed and have a relaxing time like we did last time. We met a lovely couple who got married on the same day as us and we’re still in touch with them now. I remember it was so hot in the middle of the day that after 1/2 hour of activity you really just wanted to lie down, which meant that plenty of rest and relaxation took place, whether you liked it or not!

Tiritiri Matangi, Auckland

Tiritiri Matangi is and island in the Hauraki Gulf, near Auckland. It is a wildlife sanctuary and has been cleared of all pests which kill the native birds and plants. It’s a favourite spot of my parents but I’ve never been. I think it’s about time I did.

Kawau Island, Rodney District

Kawau Island is an island in the Upper Hauraki Gulf north of Auckland. I want to go there because I grew up in Auckland and never went. Now I live even closer, having moved north, so there’s no excuse for not visiting. It’s supposed to be a get-away-from-it-all tranquil place. We’re not talking tropical island like Fiji etc, but lots of trees and walks, good fishing – a good day-trip if you want to get out of Auckland City.
