Also, I would recommend an overnight stay. The hotels are a little on the pricey side but the nightlife is actually really fun. Lots of 20 somethings who work there in the summer. If you can catch him, check out Mike Riz (pronounced rise). Fantastic musician who is usually playing around town on the weekends. The patio of the Pink Pony is a great place to get cocktails or dinner. Beautiful view of the harbor and they have a hot tub for public use so that’s kind of fun. Cheers!

I used to drive horses here and give tours of Mackinac Island. Murray’s Hotel has the biggest and best selection of fudge. If you come here I highly recommend bringing you own mountain bike if you have one. They can be pretty expensive to rent. But go to the middle of the island if you really want to see it. For people into mountain biking there are a lot of trails w/ something to challenge any level rider. And, make sure you find your way up to Fort Holmes. It’s the highest point on the island and has a beautiful view of the Straits of Mackinac as well as the Mackinac Bridge. If anyone needs any travel tips this is a location I know inside and out. A boring town with the most boring airport in Ive ever been to. But, I do recommend The Old Spaghetti Factory. Awesome food and a fantastic atmosphere. Other than that, don’t come here on vacation unless you’re a Mormon.

Drove from Monterrey down to Hearst Castle (which is also well worth a visit). Gas was expensive in Monterrey so we thought we’d get something down the road cheaper. We had no idea how rugged this stretch of road becomes. It’s mountains on your left and ocean on your right. Finally came across a gas station and it was CLOSED for repairs. Almost ran out of gas on Highway 1. That would not be fun. But, Big Sur was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Sooo worth a visit.

I ended up going out here from Michigan with a couple of hippie girls I barely knew to see a band I didn’t care about (Phil Lesh). Didn’t have anything better to do that week. Ended up staying a lot longer than I would have liked. Not the most exciting place to visit. I would not recommend a visit.
