Worth visiting!

so-so

I went as a chaperone on a school trip; I hesitate to give it a “worth visiting” because for me, it was borderline…
but memorable b/c I was there with Benjamin, my little son who is PDD-NOS, and a ball of energy so 80% of the time I was rying to keep him from jumping in with the stingrays or climbing where he shouldn’t…..lol

How this place changed my life

We were leaving our lovely Seattle, the last 100 miles or so everyone was asleep
I was weeping quietly as I drove..I KNEW it wasn’t “just for a few weeks”
and I was heartbroken about the change.

Omaha was waiting with its quiet surprises…
It was a small town with a few big buildings
It was cold cold in the winter
and hot and sticky in the summer, with humidity to make the clothes stick to ones back and mosquitos in abundance

but
it was also green and lush
the people warm and friendly
a place we almost lost everything but gained new perspectives
and launched forward once again
strengthened and nourished from the roots
as only a mall town/city can do

yes it does rain, but no, not for long, and not very hard!

I’d go back to visit or live there in a heartbeat!

Groton

Worth visiting!

Untitled

We were stationed briefly in Groton,
but while we were there our long awaited baby girl Jenny arrived!

The local sandwich is called a “grinder” sort of a “Hero” in other locales ;)

It was a charming little town, very beautiful in the fall, and the place we rented seemed to echo with a lot of happy memories.
the table was an amazingly large round one people had played countless games on,
the kitchen was equipped with partyware and utensils for consuming lobsters…

It was a vacation home;

I went with a friend to Helen Broomell’s place- she was made of the stuff of legends

she made every thing there magical
and will always be part of the Northwoods

The last time I went to this place

Was shortly after Katrina hit, about a year ago
We worked with a disaster relief unit in close conjunction with the Red Cross; I would have loved to go back again and again, but other things happened ( a car crash that was seconds off from being fatal, for one)

Ontario

(in Canada)

Worth visiting!

in a corner that doesn't exist anymore

off a road near Kitchener not too far from Toronto

was a YWAM base, where lived Colin Harbinson who wrote The Toymaker
where I first heard about Dayuma,
and the Mercy Ships

wish I could go back, I’d do it better remember it better
it was a magical pivotal time

Canada while I was there? COOOOOOOOOOLD! (JAn-March)
Charming, but cold!

We were happy to find out our outreach was someplace warm ! (Puerto Rico)
