What an amazing place! I can’t begin to describe how good this trip was. This city was made by giants, held together by extremes and contradictions. The Niver in the sunshine. The underground. Sad babushkas and quiet dachas, palaces and more palaces and incredible stuccoed architecture, rampant capitalism and the decayed remnants of Kings and Communists. The arts. Lovely people.

It doesn’t look like much in the photos, but there’s some really lovely places along the coast and it’s great for kids seaside holidays.

I’ve been here. It’s really beautiful. The river runs down a valley between huge rolling moors. There’s a canal and old mills from the early industrial period. Nowhere greener.

The most wonderful place I’ve visited. Complete disaster with car but the people we met were so sweet. Swimming in the lakes in the pit of extinct volcanoes, deep eroded river valleys and uncut forests.
