This is an interesting area of Indiana, one you wouldn’t expect to find in the central area of the state. Frances Slocum State Park is near the lake, her story is an interesting one. There is also a small Amish presence there, along with the endless agricultural areas. Mississinewa was also the site of a battle during the War of 1812 and they do re-enactments there every year. It’s a neat place to go fishing or driving.

This is my favorite place in the entire world. The beach is wide, clean, fresh and exposed to open water so there is no grime circulating back towards it. It’s also not a big tourist beach because it is a heck of a drive if you’re coming from Petoskey or Harbor Springs but oh man, it is worth it. A great beach.

Actually, I’m in school right now in Ohio but golly-gee-howdy, Petoskey is such a great place and I look forward to going back one day and living there for good. It’s a great, friendly little town and not to mention it is very beautiful. When you crest 31 and look down upon the bay it’s just stunning, even with the poopy hospital in the way. Wonderful area.

When I lived in Indianapolis, we went to Connor Prairie at least once a year for a field trip in elementary school. So much fun! Halloween is the best time to go, I’m not sure if they still do this but you used to be able to go on a hay ride where the Headless Horseman would ride the wagon down. Scared the crap out of me as a kid but it’s still so much fun.

Hypodermic needles, used condoms and garbage littered the beaches when I went, though this was several years ago and in the off season. Still, as a national park you’d think they’re keep it a little cleaner.

It’s very busy during the fall for the colors but it’s such a beautiful place in flat, boring ol’ Indiana, it’s worth a visit.

When I lived in Indiana, we would drive to Turkey Run during the summer and even sometimes during the winter. It’s a beautiful, ancient place. Just don’t take Trail #2.

This is one of the best places to visit in Indianapolis, if not THE best. Spend a day or two just walking around, playing in the displays, watching the water clock and maybe catch an IMAX movie, there’s so much to see and do here it’s a bit like a zoo if you go in the summer but it’s still fun.

I used to live here, there really isn’t anything all that special about it. Since I left, they’ve done some major expanding and re-organization of the downtown area, but it is still way too sprawl-like for me.

It’s not a bad place to get stranded. The renovations have really updated the place, even with that weirdo tunnel they have. You can smoke and get good food and hang out without feeling too crowded or stressed.
