I live a couple of blocks from here but was living on the West Coast during 9/11 so I don’t have the same personal connection that many peole around here do. It’s weird to look out my window and know what happened. Even weirder is riding the PATH train thru it…

Awesome venue

This place is great – not too big and there’s seating on the upper level if you’re there early enough. Bands on the brink of becoming big will play here and the next week will end up i some huge dome somewhere (and you saw them when…). Probably my favorite venue in LA.

Like a theme park without paying...

OK, so there aren’t rides or anything, but it’s a spectacular semi-outdoor mall with huge neon signs. Definitely a great stop for anyone visiting LA…

I’m sorry, but NOTHING beats having a ghost sit on your lap!

Star Tours

Close your eyes and try!

This is so fun – be ready for a jerky ride though. Even if you shut your eyes (thinking you can lock out what’s on screen and trick your brain), you’re still very much on the ride.
Worth a wait!

Disneyland Park

Worth visiting!

I haven’t been here in WAY too long. Used to go at least once a year with a group of good friends, but moved out of CA and haven’t been back there for about 5 years.

Just make a rule that once you’re in the park, you get to be a kid. Partake in the kiddie rides, give in to the playful atmosphere and eat all the goodies you can get your hands on. I used to love these ice cream sandwich things called “Hockey Pucks” (in honor of the Mighty Ducks)

Have to do it once...

I’ve taken in a few concerts at MSG now and I’m not the biggest fan – every seat seems so far away – but it’s so well known that I’d have to suggest you hit it once!

Magnolia Bakery

Heaven

Friends brought me to Magnolia when I moved here – went on a Saturday night and waited for almost a half hour, but it was well worth it. I’ve now introduced all my out of town to the best cupcakes in the land! Plus, the people that work crowd control at the door are usually awesome…
My suggestion: vanilla cupcake over chocolate cake. If you’re a choc fiend, go for vanilla cake with choc frosting!
Take a box, fill it up and try not to eat them all before you get home!

Central Park

Snowy wonderland

For someone who’s grown up in California, one of my new favorite things is visiting Central Park after some snow. And in the spring and summer, it’s one of the many fantastic NY places to people watch!

gorgeous

My husband took me here for my birthday as a surprise. My shoes weren’t great for walking cobblestone streets, and it was pretty chilly at the end of November, but my gosh the main strip along the water (River street) was breathtaking. There are so many walking tours to choose from and cute shops and restaurants to choose from. A fantastic weekend getaway!
