Isla Mujeres, Yucatán (State)
Mid October
Go in October!! All I have to say is school is in (No kids or college breakers) and people have already gone on summer vacation and are holding out for winter. The place was empty and the bars were mostly filled with locals. There was still live cuban music and you had to go to the bar to get drinks rather than them coming to you. Fine with me as long as there isnt someones baby screaming next to me. The ONLY downside is that the street vendors and beach ‘sales people’ get quite desperate and pushy due to lack of drunken tourists to take advantage of. Theres $4.00 ceviche, cuban cigarettes, topless beaches, good music, empty hammocks, and gorgeous snorkeling (We got a one hour private snorkeling tour of the reefs from a local for $15 US for both!) And the boat ride over is very reasonable (and enjoyable) at $30 US per person. We ended up speding most days on the island even though we had a 4 star hotel in Cancun!! If youre there to get some $%% and do shots at “Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett” wait till summer, if youre there to relax and enjoy the scenery (no not the topless lady laying next to you) go on late October. No hurricanes or rain in the 3 weeks I was there.
