It's halfway from Pittsburgh to New Hampshire...

I’ve been here before, but I’d like to go back again sometime and check out an exhibition at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, which I’ve never visited, because I love botanical illustrations.

I want to go to Edgefield County because my walking buddy invited me to come along with her next time she goes there to do some genealogical research.

...was on my first visit to Augusta, but I only went into the gift shop.
There’s normally an admission fee, but on Sundays they don’t charge for admission. Yesterday, Sunday, I happened to be downtown in the area, and I decided it was time to visit the museum again and actually see their art collection.
Yesterday was also the last day of a special exhibit of the art of J. C. Leyendecker, a very famous illustrator in the 1920’s. After looking at that, I didn’t have enough time to really see the rest of the collection, so I’d like to go back again.

It’s a good place to shop for Advent calendars. They’re closed now until after New Year’s. Maybe I’ll go back then and see if I can get any Advent calendars on sale.
I always loved Advent calendars when I was a kid.
They also sell some beautiful Christmas cards and some other nice gift items.

According to a magazine article in Southern Living, this historical museum itself has an interesting history. It is supposed to be haunted by the ghost of its original owner, one Richard Howe. He wanted to move to Aiken in the 1930’s, but he was already over 60 years old and superstitious about building a brand new home, so he moved an older house to the location and added onto it. His plan failed, because soon after moving in he suffered a fatal fall.

I found an article about this place that made it sound great. To get here, first you have to go to Amicalola Falls, and then from the top of the falls you have to hike 5 miles through a forest in a state park.
