Films are fine; buying tickets is a hassle

Again (for the 3rd year), I’m fighting with the ticketing system. Once I get there and start finding the rhythm of walking, riding the shuttles, and adjusted to the altitude I’m fine. But the hassles of the ticketing system are almost enough to say forget it.

Went last year (2005) with a couple who were looking for celebrities all the time. She didn’t enjoy the films, and was disappointed that she didn’t see movie stars every moment. Needless to say they decided not to go this year. The rest of our party had a great time. Staying in Park City, it’s easy to get to many venues. With a car, you can take advantage of Salt Lake City and Ogden as well as Sundance Village: Utah is beautiful.

Hoping to meet up with some local friends again this year.

Stockholm was great

of course we stayed in the apartment next door to our friends, and ate most meals with them. Our long weekend was delightful, filled with walking, shopping, visiting, eating and cooking. The beau and our host rode bikes one morning making a 20 km tour of town.

I was struck by the limited amount of daylight (roughly 8:30 am to 4:00 pm) in mid-November. Our host imports one of the full-spectrum light machines, swears by it for his own use and for his kids, and can cite the scientific literature http://irc.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/fulltext/ir659/contents.html.

Training my eye

I recall one visit from the mid-1980s: I used frequent flier miles, took vacation time from my job, and bought 4 or 6 rolls of film. Stayed with a friend at a FOAF’s apartment above a bakery, so we woke to warm sweet smells daily. While my companion worked all day, I mostly walked (and rode the Metro), taking pictures of windows, streets, architecture, people, and light. No obligations and no requirements.
