Greensboro, North Carolina

The melting pot whose charm will melt you

Greensboro is what happens when you take strong ethnic diversity and put it in a historically rich place and kick it up a notch with southern charm! The college students bring in your art venues, good cheap eats (some great vegetarian spots like Boba House and Healthy Spice included), and the club scene, then the business end brings incredible fine dining options, great commercial/shopping areas, and nice basics like the city having a strong environmental drive for recycling, water purity, and minimizing pollution all around. Everyone from the working class to the wealthy fit here, and community activities for families are really widespread. Grimsley High school has also repeatedly been ranked in the top 10 nationwide, and the NC colleges are great about loaning out science equipment and the like that would otherwise only make it to high end private schools. The people are warm, helpful, and compassionate, and with only a couple of somewhat questionable areas (everywhere has them), the streets are safe and clean. Every business colleague that comes here falls in love with it, with good reason—the mild weather, sun, and joy of the community is addictive. I left this place for seven years for college, and I’ve been to 45 states plus Europe… nowhere compares, and judging by the people flocking here, I’d guess I’m not the only one who thinks so. You also can’t easily beat being a few hours from both gorgeous mountain ranges and the beach (not so many hours down to Florida or up to New England, either), and the airport is international and inexpensive to fly in and out of but still small enough to actually walk across without marathon training beforehand.

If anyone’s looking for something specific in town, ask away. If I don’t know, chances are one of my neighbors does :)
