My dad went there on business earlier this year, and found it to be a very interesting place to travel. I would probably need to go with a (male) traveling partner, but would like to spend some time there.

Not worth it!
I rated this as a place not worth visiting, but this requires some qualification. This is not a touristy destination. If you´re looking for a beach holiday and a place to chill out, this is probably not the best island in the area to go to (and very expensive – too many CUC´s spoil the broth!!). If you are interested in viewing different modes of life and to immerse yourself in the history of the country, it is certainly worthwhile.
