Downtown is a vague and subjective term. As conceived by local real estate marketers, several neighborhoods overlap with Downtown, notably the Inner Harbor. Most natives would include Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood in their concept of a central “downtown”. A larger downtown is represented by the Downtown Partnership, an affiliation of centrally located, mostly business, concerns.

The Lead Sled Festival is an event conceived and organized by my dad. The park has a great view of the rest of the city.

The Lead Sled Festival is an outdoor classic car show named for the use of lead in the detailing of antique cars. Designed to benefit the restoration of the Polish Home Hall in Curtis Bay, the Lead Sled Festival is free and features live music, food from local vendors, and family activities. This past weekend was my first camping trip in 10 years. The campground at Elk Neck had lots of trees and kept things cool. I was with my gloriously camping-competent gentleman companion, who happens to be the best campfire chef you’ll ever find. We had big, deliciously seasoned soft tacos and roasted corn. Outside the campground was pretty too, although we erroneously bypassed the road to the swimming beach. Instead of taking that turn, we drove straight, to the easiest trail, the one to the Turkey Point Lighthouse. I don’t usually think of rocky cliffs when I imagine being on the inner bay, but there they were: some dramatic views and big drops. The boating looked very pleasant. And we’ll have to go swimming another time.
