South Korea, Asia

Untitled

I did not spend enough time sight-seeing while I was stationed here. I would like to go back as a civilian and really see the land. I visited Seoul a few times (and bought an “Eric Crapton” CD) and took a bus trip up to the DMZ, which was certainly bizarre, but overall, my year in S. Korea was mostly spent drinking and waiting to leave. Oh, the foolishness of youth!

Louisiana, United States

Untitled

My family visited Louisiana (Baton Rouge and New Orleans) last June. We had an incredibly humid, exciting, and all too short visit, madly driving about the cities, taking pictures of everything.

I feel so lucky to have had a chance to visit New Orleans prior to the devastation of Katrina. I also feel like there was a strange cosmic reason we went…I don’t think I would have felt the same sense of connection had I not just been there…walking the streets.

I definitely want to go back. I thank all of those who have and still are working so hard to rebuild the city and bring people home again.

Minnesota, United States

Untitled

My family moved here (from Texas!) when I was eleven. We lived in a tiny town, St. James, and we could ride our bikes or walk everywhere. For a kid from the city, that was heaven.

I had a hard time adjusting to the lack of cultural diversity, but only because I didn’t at that time understand the difference between Germans, Swedes, Fins and Danes. I was the one lacking cultural sensitivity, having grown up mostly around people who were white and people who were not white.

Minnesota is a beautiful state, and the people, although slow on the uptake, are a fantastic lot. The friends I made while living there have been my friends for life. I still have family there, and when I long for miles and miles of corn fields, it’s good to know that Minnesota patiently awaits my return.
