barcelona

i went to barcelona for 6 weeks through a program called Academic Studies Abroad. it enabled me to take spanish classes and live with a homestay family (that didnt speak english) so i was almost completely immersed in the language and culture. the program took us on excursions every weekend so i was also able to see mallorca, madrid, figures, portbou, and sitges. basically i was on the mediterranean coast the whole time so i didnt experience main-land spain. still i found out that basically everyone in that region speaks spanish AND catalan and can switch from one to the other with ease. it was an amazing experience and i would suggest doing it similarly (being stationed in one city and traveling on the weekends).
