Old Faithful Geyser, Yellowstone National Park

Untitled

i worked at the old faithful inn for three months, and only actually sat and watched old faithful go off three times. once was by moonlight from observation point, a good zigzagging hike up the side of a mountain that gives a view of the whole basin, once because i happened to be passing by when it started going, and once from the balcony of the inn. as much as the geyser itself is amazing, the true spectacle is the hordes of people who show up with only old faithful in mind, the gasps and cheers as it begins to spurt.

the biggest hint, though: don’t try to get into any of the restraunts right after it goes. it’s called the geyser rush, and you’ll wait a very long time for very stressed service.
