Good people

I was there for a year and noticed everywhere I went that people did things at a slower pace than I was used to. The grocery store clerks took their time and made real conversation with you. The boys are raised to be polite there, holding open doors, etc. (It was in VA that I witnessed this: A lady heading for a store door. A 10 year old kid reached the door before her. He opened the door to let her in. Once she was inside, he let go of the door and continued walking. He was not even going inside that store! I was amazed and wanted to hug that kid!)

I was there for a year…didn’t visit any of the cities…stayed in a small farm town in the middle of nowhere. Really and truly in the middle of nowhere. There was nothing to do, which was what I wanted during that period of my life, so it was perfect. But I could never live there forever. The midwestern mindset is too stifling and limited for me. I chose “worth visiting” just because I think most anyplace is worth visiting at least once. I’ll only say “not worth visiting” if I truly hated the place!
