Erinji, Yamanashi

Kentokusan Elinji

Opened in 1330 by Musokokushi who gardened for Saiho-ji(Koke dera)in Kyoto. It’s family temple for the Takeda. Takeda Shingen is one of the famous warlords at the period of Civil war in Japan. When the Takeda was ruined by the member of Nobunaga Oda clan and Kaisen Osho who was the top of Elinji sheltered the Takeda’s lord, Oda clan got furious, locked the Elinji’s people in and then set the fire to kill them.

Kaisen Osho’s referred for the Chinese poem at his last.

“Anzen Kanarazu shimo Sansuiwo mochiizu,

Shinto mekkyaku sureba hi mo onozukara suzushi”

Keeping the mind smooth,

the surroundings are not important.

Remove the worldly thoughts from your mind,

and then feel cool even in the fire.

When you meet the suffering, the best way is to surface

And acknowledge it.

Kaisen osho is wonderful prist of Zen.
