Free entry to Edinburgh Castle on St. Andrews Day 30th Nov.

“Celebrate St Andrew’s day with a free visit to some of Scotland’s great historic attractions.

Edinburgh Castle, St Andrew’s Castle and St Andrew’s Cathedral will offer free admission to visitors on 30 November to mark Scotland’s national day and celebrate the anniversary of the Stone of Destiny’s return to Scotland.

The normal prices for Edinburgh Castle are adults £9.80, (!) concessions £7.50, children £3.50. Entry is 9.30am to 4.15pm (closes 5pm)

Their is also a free ceilidh and live music in the Lawnmarket (Royal Mile/High Street) and the Hub in the evening (7:30pm onwards)

Best place in England for hiking...

Best place in England for hiking… hillwalking / tramping – avoid crowded Windermere and head for Borrowdale, Buttermere, Langdale etc. Keswick and Ambleside are quite nice little towns but you come here for the scenery so head for the hills! Good pubs too – try the Drunken Duck – great beer, tasty food and scenic location:
