The Canary Islands are very well known as a vacation destination to Europeans, but not to Americans. They have beautiful beaches and great hiking in the volcanoes. I spent a whole summer there as a teenager and loved it!

Try going to southern Brazil. Most people go to Rio or Brasilia. The South has many beautiful beaches, less crime and fewer tourists.

I went here on my honeymoon. My husband had been twice already and couldn’t wait to bring his wife. I was reluctant to go to a cold location for my honeymoon, but I have to say there is no more romantic place on earth. It was great to stroll through castles and cobblestone streets during the day and cuddle up by a peat fire by night. It also has some trendy night spots and art museums. However, the scenery is unparalleled. The vastness of the highlands is spectacular – especially near Loch Ness. I would highly recommend it.

I lived in Montevideo for a year after High School. It is a beautiful, often-overlooked country. I can’t wait to return.
