Prepare for culture shock

If you are going on vacation for a week, and will be staying around the hotel and doing day trips organized by tour groups, or if you are male, you shouldn’t have any problems . However, I lived here for 4 months, and anytime I would venture out on my own I would draw looks, sneers, rude comments, cat calls and would often have men follow me. I certainly dressed conservatively, and did nothing to encourage this behaviour besides being a woman with blonde hair and green eyes.

That aside, some of the food is wonderful ie. real couscous, bric a l’oeuf, dates, oranges, olives, etc. and this is one of the countries with the most history on earth, you definitley want to check out Carthage, and Sidi Bou Said is a very quaint little seaside town.

If you are travelling from North America, just be prepared for EVERYTHING to be completley different from anything else that you’ve experienced.

Speaking at least basic French will definitely come in handy.

Spent MANY days off here while working in Maine. Absolutely fantastic for hiking and camping, loved canoeing on the Saco River! Don’t miss the “Blueberry Muffin” for breakfast in North Conway.

Spent some time here while working in Maine, and especially loved Boston and Martha’s Vineyard. So much history, and so many good looking college guys!
