Pretty on the outside, nice views from the top, but the interior is a modern looking museum. I was hoping for period-style decorations and furnishings.

I live in Japan about 2.5 hours from Osaka, so I’ve been a number of times. It’s really… not so great. It’s a big city so it has all the bars and clubs you could want, but there’s really not much to do during the day other than shop. Osaka Castle and the gardens are nice from the outside, but the castle is a very modern looking museum inside. The aquarium is awesome. But that’s about it. I haven’t been to Himeji yet, but I’ve heard that the castle has a lot of the historical feel inside. Kyoto is a much better city for cultural stuff, and I’ve found Kobe to be much nicer for just wandering around.
