The Parlor

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Reasonably priced cuts in a nice environment.

I decided to check this place out because it was right across the street from me and the hair cut prices were reasonable ($40 is pretty good for Seattle). The stylist was friendly but not annoying and didn’t yank my hair or scrape a brush on my earrings once. She actually cut my hair as short as I wanted (a problem I had the last time I went to Zero Zero), and did a good job. The atmosphere was also nice, not too gaudy and not trashy either. I would definitely go back.
Here are the hours as she gave them to me on 5/20/08:
Tues, Thurs, Fri 11-7
Wed 11-5
Sat 10-4
Closed Mon and Sun
For the record, my cut was done by Raga, the owner. I believe she said that she was hiring a new stylist and someone who would do waxing/massages soon.

Wayward Coffeehouse

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: My favorite coffee shop in Seattle.

I love the Wayward. Even though there are about 4 other coffee places that are a little bit closer to my apartment, if I want coffee, I’ll go to Wayward. They’re open later than any other coffee house around and while I’ve never seen the place empty I’ve never seen it overly crowded either. It’s a pretty big, open place, which is kind of rare in Seattle, and there are lots of big squishy couches to sit on, along with a nice little book shelf with lots of games. They have a good selection of drinks, including chai, mate, and bottled drinks if you’re not into coffee, and they have a small menu of simple vegetarian sandwiches. They also have a small case of pastries and vegan Mighty O donuts. The staff is really friendly and cheerful and I’ve never had a bad experience with anyone working there. They also have punch cards to earn a free coffee. I can’t think of a single bad thing to say about the place.

Kitaro

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

We had garlic, avocado, and tofu; okra and tofu; bamboo shoot and tofu; and vegetable tempura sushi. They were all super good, but I liked the okra sushi the best. This is a good place for getting unique vegetarian sushi and way less crowded than Mashiko.

A review of this place

I’ve had the chicken fried steak and the fish ‘n’ chips and both were extremely good. Seriously, vegan fish ‘n’ chips. It’s awesome. Go there now.

Hopvine Pub

A review of this place

This place was okay, but there are far better bars in Seattle. The service was slow and flagging down waiters was difficult. My friend’s food was served long after everyone else was done (to be fair, the menu did warn us that what she ordered would take 45 minutes, but we all ordered around the same time and her food came long after our food which took about half an hour even though it was just sandwiches). It wasn’t the worst place I’ve ever been, but I don’t feel compelled to go back.

Serious Pie

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

Yes, this place is expensive. Yes, it’s in a somewhat shitty location if you’re going to have to park. But the pizza is good and it’s original, which can be a hard thing to find in a pizza. I thought that the boring pizza with cheese and tomatoes was a disappointment, but I loved the one that was smothered in all different kinds of mushrooms with truffle cheese and the one with arugula and egg. The appetizer that was basically a caprese salad with peaches instead of tomatoes was good too. I wouldn’t go here often because it’s too expensive, but if you get the fancy pizzas it’s worth it to go once in a while.

Mi Chalateca

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

Between the two of us my boyfriend and I got 5 pupusas (which come with cabbage topping and hot sauce), an order of empanadas de platano, and an horchata. Our bill was less than $15. We’ll be going back.

Neptune Coffee

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: One of the two best coffee shops in Greenwood.

The people here are very friendly and they make a good cappuccino.

(If you’re wondering, the other best coffee shop in Greenwood is Wayward Coffeehouse.)

Pabla Indian Cuisine

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

I’ve been to several Indian buffets, and this one is the best I’ve been to so far. Really good food, and attached to an Indian grocery if you want to buy something to take home.
