Bali, Indonesia
a sarong would be handy
when i was in bali, we visited a number of hindu temples in the area. there was this particular temple that had this huge sign that had a list of “rules” written on it. one of the rules read: MENSTRUATINGWOMENARENOTALLOWEDINSIDETHETEMPLE. ok. i was glad i wasn’t having my period then, but i guess you just had to really understand the bali customs to fully understand the rule. (shrug). as for wearing shorts that day, i was handed a sarong (to be returned after) and an umbrella to boot so i could walk and explore the temple.
the temple where you can feed monkeys was another interesting place to visit too. i wish i could remember the names of the temples, but i really couldn’t!
