British Museum

Worth visiting!

fabulous array of stuff!

We were totally overwhelmed – the frieze from the Parthenon is incredible, so many horses, so many overlapping legs and arms, so beautiful.

Also a very cool parka made out of seal intestines in the Inuit section.

Newtown

Worth visiting!

good pubs, good pizza, and good graveyard

Newtown has quite a few pubs – I haven’t been into all of them. My favourites are The Carlise Castle on Albermarle St, and The Town Hall which is right next to the station. Newtown also has good pizza at Wedgetail which is opposite the station next to the community centre.

There’s also a very good graveyard around St Stephens church, kind of behind the Dendy and the IGA. It’s very over grown, with huge trees and old roses gone wild amongst the graves. Some important early Sydney people are buried there. It’s an interesting place.

Pirandello and Lampedusa

I want to go to Sicily mainly because of two films: The Leopard, based on Guiseppe di Lampedusa’s novel Il Gattolepardi, and Kaos, based on some of Luigi Pirandello’s short stories.

I only found out about Pirandello because years ago I flew to England via Rome on an Alitalia plane named after Luigi Pirandello. I came home and told my dad about it, and he said, yes, of course Pirandello was famous! First I’d heard of it I said, and then when Kaos came out I had to go and see it.

Lord Howe Island

Worth visiting!

very simple, very beautiful

Lord Howe Island is beautiful. Only about 400 people live there, it’s small with a mountain, beautiful beaches, a reef, colourful fish, a very shy native bird, and not much else. It’s a great place to go to relax, and walk, and cycle, and snorkel, and maybe do a bit of climbing.
