Bakersfield, Kern County

Untitled

I was born and raised in Bakersfield—fourth generation…and it is a great town to be from. I lived there until I was 20 and then went off to college, lived in many different countries and only go back to visit family. It is a large town with a small-town mentality so if you consider yourself progressive, this is NOT the town for you.

All-in-all this town gets a bad rap…it is not that bad but when you have a growing population with not too many things to do, crime rises. As with any place you hang your hat, you can find what you want if you look hard enough…life is what you make it…

Micronesia, Australia/Oceania

Diving Paradise

I lived throughout Micronesia for a little more than 3 years. I was fortunate enough to not only go diving around several islands, but I was a Scuba Instructor for the majority of my stay. I have to say that Palau is the MOSTAMAZING diving I have ever done. If you get a chance to make it this far from Mainland USA, you have to dive BLUECORNER. I dove it almost every day for 3 weeks straight and was never even close to bored—teeming with life of all varities and SHARKSSHARKSSHARKS

There is almost nothing else to do on Palau (although the Kayaking is awesome)…but if you love diving and want to be spoiled beyond belief…go to Palau. (Also recommend Jellyfish Lake (once) and many many other dives including wall dives, drift dives, cavern diving and a few wreck dives (that can be done without wreck training as they are not penetrating dives). The best way to do it would be a Liveaboard, but even if you just stay on Koror and do day trips, you will not regret your choice to go so far from home just to get wet!

Hope this helps and inspires…if I get a chance I will upload some pictures.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Untitled

Being only a 4 hour drive from home, I make it to Vegas at least a couple of times a year. Don’t bother trying to avoid crowds in Vegas…just become part of the fun. They are not lying when they say ‘the city never sleeps’—you might not either. Do try to avoid holiday weekends…the table limits go way up and getting a room is virtually impossible without spending TONS!! I say get an average room and save the cash for the gambling, shows, clubs, food, shoping or any number of other things that you can do!! Definitely WHATHAPPENS in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas…ENJOY!
