I went to school here for one year.
After it’s “abandonment” Ft. Ord became home to California State University, Monterey Bay.
Seasdie itself is pretty boring, but the neighboring towns make it worth visiting.
Monterey Bay has got excellent restaurants (on the wharf especially) and is the backdrop to one of Steinbeck’s masterpieces, Cannery Row.
Pacific Grove is equally as beautiful, with many quaint little shops and places to eat.
Carmel-By-The-Sea is about a fifteen minute drive from Seaside and has by far the nicest beaches of the area. If you’re there and need a place to stay, The Cypress Inn is always a good idea! It’s owned by Doris Day!
Be sure to take the “17-mile-drive” along the coast through the famous Pebble Beach golf course.
Also just a car ride away is exciting Santa Cruz. Across the bay, Santa Cruz is one of the most lively cities in California. Exceptional dining and shopping can be found here, as well as magnificent views from the boardwalk.
The Central Coast will always have a place in my heart. California really has got it all!
