A nice change from San Francisco which is only a drive away. I lived in between these two places for many years. One of the deepest lakes in the world. Everyting from wonderful natural areas like Desolation Wilderness to gambling near the Nevada border. World class downhill. The hands-off California spirit permeates most areas.

I had a great time in February 2006. I stayed on the south-east edge of the island. Being on this side the bugs were not as bad as things more inland and more north (from what I was told). The weather was PERFECT. It rained for about 5 minutes a day. Most days I didn’t even bother to move from my lawn chair. Being from the US I found it great to be there with many folks from England.

Davis is a great place to live but I don’t really think of it as a travel destination since you have Tahoe, San Francisco, and wine country within an easy drive. Davis does not compare. Although the Mondavi center would be worth while.

I can’t wait for the reprieve. Going in the middle of winter to escape the snow and lack of sun.
