There are some great views of the city from the Urbis museum of modern life, as well as interesting exhibits within the museum itself.

Manchester is good for shopping, especially now the Arndale shopping centre is being rebuilt.

Fallowfield is full of students. It’s a nice enough place to live in if you are a student but there isn’t really much to do there if you are visiting.

Known as the Curry Mile, there are plenty of choices in Rusholme if you want a decent curry.

Niarbyl is a beautiful little place just south of Peel with just a few traditional cottages, some lovely coastal walks, a small pebbly beach and is a great place to watch the sun set. Definately worth a visit if you are on the island.

I don’t remember much about it as I was very young at the time, but I’d love to go back.

I took a day trip to Calais a while back, swayed by the unbelievably cheap ferries from Dover. It didn’t seem like there was much to do there without a car (or longer, if taking trains) to take you into the surrounding areas. The town hall was pretty, and there are some nice cafes and the like in the centre.

St Wolfgang was lovely, although very much aimed at tourists for the large part. There are, however, lots of things to see here, the views over lake Wolfgangsee are beautiful and there are plenty of walks to enjoy in the surrounding countryside.

Peel is the island’s only official city (having a cathedral) but it is by no means city sized. It’s a beautiful little place on the coast, and a great place to watch the sunset from. You can see some of my photos of Peel on Flickr.
