We went to a town called Oak Bluffs and honestly the best thing about the trip was the ferry ride over. The town is extremely touristy and not in a good way. The only thing to do there is shop and every store has the exact same merchandise – all Martha’s Vineyward sweatshirts, t-shirts, magnets, etc. It’s like 50 gift shops all in a row. Everyone was extremely rude, including both the tourists and the locals. Apparently the local shopowners think that they have enough tourists moving through there every day that there is no reason to be polite. Also, we went to eat at a place called Lookout Tavern. The food was terrible (overcooked lobster, cold corn and potatoes, terrible presentation and way overpriced) and the waitress was an idiot (no refills, cherry coke with so much grenadine it was undrinkable, slow service, slow to clean the table off). The tip reflected the poor food and service, but still I left her 10%, which I thought was fair. She followed me outside, called me cheap, and then added an extra $10 thinking I would never notice! When I called the manager he said he would have the accountant look into it, and then told me that it was an error on my bank’s part, but he would have the account back it off and reapply “just in case.” Yeah, right. The charge posted as what it was supposed to but my bank told me the first charge couldn’t possibly have been an error on their part because they have no control over card charges – it all comes directly from the merchant. Save your time and money and skip this place.
