I guess it is true about what you think is ‘fun.’ I think you’ll like Melbourne if you like the following –
1.) Good coffee – We are known to have some of the best blends in the world! Try out Atomica on Brunswick St for some REALLY good stuff.
2.) GREAT food – We are BIG eaters here in Melbourne, we are also v. multicultural, so there is every type of food your after from vegan to steak, to vietnamese, to Japanese.
3.) If you love good clothes – There’s every type of clothes in Melbourne. If you love opshopping there is HEAPS of op shops and vintage stores. If you like designer clothes check out Collins St. or Myer/David Jones in the CBD.
4.) Nightlife is GREAT – There are a crap load of bars in the city that make some extremly yummy drinks.
It’s true Melbourne has erratic weather, but that’s part of it’s charm! After a few REALLY hot days, it usually rains, so it cools you down.
The girl aboves me believes that the Gold Coast is better, but the Gold Coast is TOTALLY different. If you want tacky nightclubs, girls and guys in tight clothes and dodgy bars then go to the Gold Coast by all means. Melbourne is ALOT classier and is probably the most European out of all the Australian states.

Stop bagging Melbourne – it’s gettin’ a bit old, don’t you think?
Perth is VERY suburban – the only good part of Perth is Fremantle, they have this great bookstore there and some interesting little cafes.
And you shouldn’t base you living somewhere solely on the weather, if that was true then no one would live in Chicago – the windy city, but still the 3rd biggest state in the U.S.!
And I’m sure you can go out, have a few drinks and not get so stupidly drunk that your memory is totally wiped out? I know I manage!
Grumpy? Lee Anderson is right! That IS Sydney!
- Final point – Melbourne has done me fine over the past 22 years of living here. I’ve been all over Australia and no where is nicer, more beautiful and have that alternative edge. (which I have and therefore adore in my state)I’m extremly proud of my city and no one will get away with bad mouthing it over and over without me putting a word in!

You’ll be fine! We don’t talk as fast as Americans do, I guess we do mumble sometimes, but we’re pretty laid back and won’t mind repeating stuff.
Have a great time! You’ll love Australia!

I didn’t go there, but I hear that the Italian resturant in Winns is really, really nice. I heard this from two people while we were there – they said it was really authentic.

Cheers everyone! My fiance and I are planning to go there for our honeymoon (we are planning a trip around the US) and we are VERY big music lovers and will def. go visit Graceland, Stax museum and Sun Studios. BBQ sounds yummy too. Thanks for taking the time out to help us plan our trip!
