i was born here! well, not dallas, but fort worth. but i’ve lived here all my life (in irving, a suburb right outside), up until this coming march, when i go off to the new york. texas is one of those places that’s so good and so infuriating that it just clings to your heart. sort of like sweat, which we have a lot of here.
what to do? in the summer and a few in the year, there’s a shakespeare in the park performance at the samuell-grand in dallas and at theaters in addison and fort worth. there’s also a theater called ‘the pocket sandwich’ on mockingbird that does really quirky, fun shows. right across from the pocket sandwich is mockingbird station…the angelika theatre is there for your independent and limited-release films, there’s a few good bars and restaurants, a cold stone creamery (yum!), LOTS of good shops. it’s a fun casual date night/hang out with friends place. also, cafe brazil. great place! the pancrepes are tasty.
what else. there’s west village, which is trendy and fun. the magnolia theatre in west village is my favorite. good shopping, too, but expensive. and duh, deep ellum. i don’t go clubbing much, but i do go to music shows at the gyspy tea room and that’s been awesome. don’t eat at reunion tower because the food suuucks. in fact…it’s not even that cool. i wouldn’t bother. for good french food, go to the grape.
=) i love my hometown.
