I lived here for five years while I was studying at Uni. You either love it or hate it. There’s not a lot to do other than hang out at the beach, drink beers on the harbour, have BBQs in the park, swim in the rockpool carved out by convicts, listen to live music, walk along the foreshore, drink coffee on Darby Street, buy knick knacks in the old railway sheds, eat at posh restaurants in Honeysuckle and wonder why you’re so lucky to live somewhere so pleasant.

Just another Chinese Western bar with draught beer and local bottled beers and live music on Friday nights when it’s rammed with all the local Westerners. It’s at the northern end of Fenghuang Jie on the east side.

First Slovak Pub is a brilliant restaurant – you can get completely fed for a couple of dollars including an 11% beer . Fantastic proper hearty Slovakian food, such as Shepherd’s Bag “spicy pork mixture in a potato pancake”, and an hilarious menu with “Meal for student before payday”, “Meal for student on pay day” and “Meal for student who wants to disport himself to his girlfriend”.
