St Maarten, Netherlands Antilles

Untitled

I work on a boat that’s based here, so at the moment this is home. St M is a great island..but you have to work a bit harder to appreciate it fully compared to some other places. If you come here, escape your resort and go on a road trip. Rent a car (or, better still, a Harley!) and go explore. Leave the casinos and shops of Simpson Bay / Phillipsburg behind and head north.. you’ll find some great, secluded beaches, and see the real, undeveloped part of the island.

Los Roques, Venezuela

Untitled

Beautiful islands, beautiful beaches, beautiful views, beautiful snorkelling…pretty damn beautiful all round actually! I found my ultimate desert island here….well, about 20 of ‘em! Was tempted to buy a hammock, choose an island, and never leave. Unfortunately, I’m not too good at fishing, so soon realised I wouldn’t last too long. Ah well. Anyway.. if you go, don’t miss the Saturday night party in the town square on the main island, Gran Roque. They don’t happen every week, but the whole island, young and old, comes out to play and dance the night away. After a peaceful week exploring it’s nice to do something different.
