This is one of the holy sites on Bali. The spring water is supposed to bring prosperity and health. Balinese bath in the waters. President Sukarno built a palace on top of the hill from which it is rumoured he could watch the Balinese beauties as they bathed at the springs.

The last time I went to this place, I witnessed a magic ceremony being carried out by a bomoh or female witch doctor in which the patient appeared to “die” and then come back to life. It apparently had to do with driving out evil spirits.

Where to start? How about great vistas? There is certainly that with snowcapped mountains by the sea. There is great wildlife and unique tours like whale watching (Sperm whales) and swimming with seals and dolphins. The town is small, pleasant and with a little bit of history. Best of all? Great seafood to top off everything. Accommodation can be very cheap in shoulder season.

This is the place to come if you are a nature lover and a water lover. Basically, water, water everywhere. Dripping, dropping, flowing, falling, still, fast and it is clear and the lakes a beautiful turquoise. A great place to recharge the soul if you can get away from the crowd. There are kilometers of trails and boardwalks so you can try.
