Byron Bay, New South Wales

Swimming with marine life

I’ve been to a lot of beaches in the world, but the most impressive were in Fiji and Australia—especially Byron Bay. If you like swimming in the ocean, no place is more idyllic than here. The water is crystal clear, deep, the surf is fantastic for swimming and surfing, and you will find that many animals will enjoy swimming along side you (mosly dolphins). The beach is wide and clean, and unlike a lot of tourist destinations, no one will try to sell you stuff. The town itself is easygoing and the folks that hang out there are very friendly. My friend and I stayed at a hostel there that was mere blocks from one beach—I forget the name, but it was clean and we had the place mostly to ourselves. I would definitely go back in March, as the conditions were perfect (in my opinion). Highly recommended!!!!!

Acapulco, Guerrero

If you're not into being "touristy"

Then get in a cab (or get a bus) and go straight to pie de la cuesta. Bypass all the corporate stuff you can get everywhere else in the world and eat fresh mariscos by the sea! There are hotels there that are not listed on the major travel sites. This is the real Acapulco!
