what a cool place! only got to spend a coupla days here on the tail end of a surgical clinic i worked with but i absolutely loved it. am wanting to go back, using the spanish scool as an excuse

was in nigeria for just about a month and left with mixed emotions. the country is highly populated, with one of the highest birth rates on the continent (so i’ve been told). most of the people i met were intelligent, regal, and smiling despite all the turmoil in their lives.
nigeria is such a rich country, producing a lot of crude oil, but there’s so much corruption in the government that it spills out into the every day lives. alot of government officials expect to be paid off (just to get into the country via the airport we had to pay the passport inspector and then give her a ride home) and there always seemed to be some kind of riot going on in the city with at least one casualty.

i dunno…it’s been almost three years since visiting and i’m still unsure as to how i feel about nigeria

stayed in nairobi and also along the coast around mombasa—very very beautiful country and some of the best coffee and chai you’ll ever have :)

kinda took an ‘off-the-beaten-path’tour, was in kenya for a few weeks working in clinics and doing health-care teaching and loved it. beautiful people, beautiful chldren, and colored toilet paper:) nairobi was such a weird experience because it is pretty-much a typical european city with high-rises and 4-star dining…and the flip side of blatant poverty: huge slums (k-berra has over a million inhabitants) with perfectly happy children playing football surrounded by filth and sewage.

never met an unfriendly kenyan. most i met had smiles on their faces and rattled off the phrase ‘hakuna matata’ without ever having seen the lion king.

beautiful country. loved it and wish i could find a way back much more permanently…

there’s always so much going on! if you’re into the party scene stay around piccadilly circus or if you’re wanting a more quiet/relaxed scene there’s a really nice hostel out in greenwich and it’s beautiful out there :)

always great to go to europe—so much history…
