Hawg Wild BBQ, near the Davidson River Campground — Best barbeque EVER. It was the first time I ever tasted the Eastern NC, vinegar-based variety, and I am now a huge fan.

If you’re a hiker, don’t miss the trail to Looking Glass Rock. Strenuous, but a view at the top that’s worth it. About 2.5-3 miles each way.

Also, for tamer entertainment, a tube trip down the river is nice.

Montego Bay, Saint James

Don't swim after downpours

My husband and I went on a cruise that stopped here, and it poured the entire afternoon (not a problem in itself). We were on the boat, and when it finally quit raining, we looked outside and all the trash from the island had washed into the bay. I can’t describe how disgusting it was. There was a line in the water, and on one side it was blue, and on the other it was brown with everything in it from a toilet seat to shoes and diapers. Not much from what we saw on land to recommend it, either.

Chattanooga, Tennessee

The best thing to do in Chattanooga:

Park the car near the aquarium, walk across the pedestrian bridge over the Tennessee River, if you’re up for lunch, stop in the River Street Deli on the lower level of shops on the north shore, then hit Clumpie’s ice cream for dessert. Carry it with you down to the park on the waterfront and enjoy watching the kids playing in the fountain. That’s just my advice :)
