Whistler, British Columbia

Snowboarding!!

Wow, what can I say. It’s like its own little world at the Whistler village. Everything that we needed was here so all that we had to do was get ourselves out of bed in the morning to hit the slopes and arrive back at our hotel for a nice long soak in the hot tube. After this it wasn’t too much of a walk to the nearest pub to finish the night off. This was the ultimate life of luxury and the hotel wasn’t too expensive either… about $50-$60 a night.

If you can, work here as a lift operator or something and ski through the winter season. It’s the only one regret of my trip, that I didn’t stay longer and do this myself.

Vancouver, British Columbia

If only I had more time...

I would have stayed here longer and explored it a bit more. A highlight of the trip to Vancouver was the visit to Stanley Park. We had a car so we drove around it but I hear that hiring a bike and peddaling around is the best way to see this park area. If my memory serves me right, Beaver Lake was in Stanley Park and it was a very tranquil and beautiful place. If you took out the sound of the ducks and birds, all you would hear would be the wind on the trees, and maybe the occasional friendly tourist walking by.

Lake Louise, Banff National Park

Winter wonderland

This place is unbeleivable. Absolutely love it! Being from Brisbane, Australia, I hardly get to see snow and this place has plenty of it. I travelled here during January so it was in the full swing of winter. The scenery was just beautiful. White tree tops everywhere you looked, snow capped mountains, and Lake Louise itself was all iced over with a thick layer of snow on top. Even though it was iced over, I didn’t dare venture towards the middle of the lake, only because after the first few steps I heard the cracking sound of some ice. Needless to say, I sh*t myself and went back to the safety of solid ground. Lake Louise is only a very small place, and because it’s sort of an out-of-the-way place, you know that everyone is there to have a good time. Snow-boarding here great too. It was easily the best slopes of the trip out of Vancouver, Whistler, Banff, Calgary.

The picture above is of the lake itself. On the side of the lake there’s an ice castle and a small ice skating area people can skate on. Very cool!

This place is definitely worth checking out. It’s a very quiet little, get-back-to-nature place but that’s what I love about Lake Louise.
