Leopold Brothers, Main Street Area

Untitled

I like Leopolds. The staff is friendly, at least the times I have been (so don’t write me a nasty note if you get someone rude). The beer is good and the food is decent.

Some things of interest:

1. They have free wireless internet.

2. They brew their own beer and spirits including this funky stuff called Pisco.

3. People love to go there to play board games (mostly because they have a huge collection).

4. It gets somewhat smoky in there.

Cherry Blossom, Ann Arbor

Overpriced sushi, but excellent entrees

Having eaten at nearly every sushi restaurant in town, I thought my job was done and I had chosen my favorites, but then I drive down State Street only to see Cherry Blossom in the old Chi Chi’s restaurant space. They tried their darnedest to make it not look like a Chi Chi’s, but it’s not that easy.

Cherry Blossom in Ann Arbor is the biggest sushi place in town. They did their best at decorating the place with old Japanese charm, but for those of us who’ve been in town for quite some time, it’ll still be Chi Chi’s to me.

The sushi was expensive. We’re talking over $3 per piece. Rolls ranged from $5 all the way up to $12. I had two pieces and they were pretty good, but I’ve had pieces just as good and just as fresh at Yotsuba for much less.

The entrees however are excellent. They’re priced right along with everyone else, but you definitely get your money’s worth here. You get miso soup, a salad, and your entree, of which many cost under $10. This is the way to go. It’s a lot more filling for your $10 than 4 pieces of sushi!

Godaiko, Ann Arbor

Overpriced

Godaiko makes decent sushi. This is not in dispute. However, if you’re going to wander out of the downtown area, save yourself the cash and go to Yotsuba. The two places in the campus/downtown area that are good are Miki and Sadako.
