I went to Turkey in 1998, before Miniaturk was constructed. I learned about it in an academic conference, of all places. It totally appeals to the tacky side of me that wants to see things like the Holy Land Experience in Florida, even though I have been to the real Jerusalem.

It is not really THAT bad. It is a pretty conservative place, I guess and there is not a lot to do.

But my family is there, so I love going there.

I had the chance to go here when I was studying abroad in Israel, but I got sick halfway there and was forced to go back to Tel Aviv instead. I will make it here someday!

Well, my friend no longer lives there, but I still want to go.

I really want to go here. I have not travelled very much outside of the United States (only to Israel and a little time in Greece and Turkey really), but this is a bigger priority for me than Paris or London or wherever. Unfortunately no one I know can understand why I would want to go here. It’s nice to come on 43places and see that there are other people who share this dream.

This move is slowly starting to fall into place. I hope we picked the right place.

I really want to do one of those architectural tours of Chicago once we get there.

(And cuz its supposed to be great!)

Other than that, the weather was always overcast, but we loved going there.

Athens is both great and gross. The pollution is pretty bad and things like the Parthenon are just not as impressive as you’d like them to be, but its a lot of fun to wander the narrow streets and sit in the streetside cafes and people-watch. Overall, worth including on a trip to Greece, but not the highlight.

I spend four fond years in Northfield and recently returned for my college reunion and acted like an old person exclaiming at all the changes and chain stores that are now there.

I wouldn’t want to live there, but its the best place for a college!
