A tip I have about this place

The little village sandwiched between Rue Georges Lardennois and the Parc des Buttes Chaumont in the 19th features a splendid panoramic view of the Sacré-Cœur basilica from the little garden association parcel situated in the southwest corner of the area. You can access the parcel freely as long as a member of the association is present. The nearby park also offers small attractions such as a little waterfall and summits. With permissible weather it could be a good place to enjoy a picnic in Paris.

A tip I have about this place

Most beautiful city. Stayed here several times while working for the European Parliament. I got to sleep both in four star hotels, little private establishments and youth hostels. I was fortunate enough once to find a place that could accommodate me at immediate notice even though it was in the middle of a parliament week. Be well adviced to book in advance during those weeks when parliament is in session. If you’re looking for a cheap but good youth hostel I can recommend the CIARUS. I’ve heard bad things about the other two.

A tip I have about this place

I stayed here for six months while working in the European Parliament and have since re-visited. The Institute of Cultural Affairs was a great place to meet like-minded young people from all over the world and it seems they are still around.

Les frites at Place Saint Josse are some of the best in the city. Incidentally, the same square holds a very good and inexpensive Italian restaurant, which my friends liked so much that they re-visited it later!

Running is an okay experience in Parc de Bruxelles near which I lived but it seemed that the more popular one was Parc du Cinquantenaire.

How this place changed my life

Lived on the South Bank for a year while studying and meeting people from all over the world. Gave me an international outlook that I can’t imagine living without.

The traffic was bad back then but the congestion charges seem to have taken care of it.

The last time I went to this place

Jogging along the Charles river was not a particularly pleasant experience as I had something resembling a highway on my right hand side. Sometimes the trail would go through dense shrubbery or a secluded resting space and I couldn’t free my mind from thinking I was exposed and at risk.. never had that thought before or after.

Charles river was but a minor part of my pleasant visit to Cambridge however. The KSG, the Widener Library, the historical cemetery and the Coop bookshop were among the interesting points of my explorations there.

A tip I have about this place

It is possible to run from a hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue down along the Potomac but it isn’t easy as the promenade passes through various private hotel courtyards and stuff.

If you fancy beer don’t miss out on the honeynut brown ale available there.

A tip I have about this place

A good place to jog is along the Rideau canal down to the river that constitutes the border between Ontario and Quebec and onwards as long as you can take it.

A tip I have about this place

The best place to jog that I found was the gravel trail around the central park reservoir between 86th and 96th street. Great views of the skyline there too.
