    Hiddenite

    Worth visiting!

Fun place, but be aware  — 1 week ago

My husband and I went to Hiddenite to mine on our honeymoon. We had a blast and would recommend it to anyone. You do have to realize, however, that the Emerald Hollow Mine area is seeded. We found citrine there, which is from Brazil. We did a little creeking and digging, but had the most fun sluicing. You get a free bucket of dirt for paying your fee, and you can buy other buckets, anywhere from $2 to $100. We bought an emerald bucket, a star ruby and sapphire bucket and the cutter’s choice bucket. We brought home a LOT of beautiful stones. Some of them will be good enough to cut. It looks like a fun place for kids, too. Like I said, we had a lot of fun, but if you go thinking you’re going to pull a huge emerald out of the ground, you might be disappointed.
