Hill's Cafe, South Congress

I wasn't impressed by Kim N

Maybe I went on an off day, but the chicken fried steak was not crispy, the green beans tasted like they came out of can, and the sweet potato fries were stale.

Vivo, Austin

The food is decent by Kim N

There might be food that excellent there, but I’ve only been once and what I got was fine, but not spectacular. However, the decor is cool and sexy even, and they give all the ladies a rose. I was given an orange rose that smelled wonderful.

Stortini, Austin

I declare Stortini my favorite restaurant by Kim N

I love the goat cheese appetizer (with lemon zest, honey and toasted bread), the chicken parmesan sandwich and the chocolate truffle torte. During May 2008, they offered 50% everything at lunch. I didn’t know it until May 29, but I went on the 29th and the 30th to take advantage of the discount.

Kerbey Lane Cafe - South, South Austin

Untitled by Kim N

I went with Mark and Cliffy, a couple of music night friends, after we wrapped up music night at 1:00 a.m. Cliffy wanted some panqueso, which he makes by putting queso on his pancake. I learned that Mark can’t hang a spoon from his nose and that he thinks cilantro tastes like B.O. smells. In case you’re wondering, I can hang a spoon on my nose, and I love cilantro. We got there about 1:20 a.m. and there was a wait of about 15 minutes. When we left around 2:30 a.m., there was a much longer wait. I’d go again.

The fruit and cheese danishes are wonderful. Slices of strawberry and kiwi on the cream cheese.

Pappy's, Houston

Untitled by Kim N

The last time I went to this place was yesterday. I was on my way home to Austin from celebrating Christmas with my brother. Back in the 80’s, I worked near Pappy’s, and sometimes my Mom would come in to town and meet me there for lunch.

It’s owned by the same people who own Fry’s Grill and 59 Diner.

The onion rings are great (thin and crispy).

Zocalo Cafe, Austin

Untitled by Kim N

I went to Zocalo Cafe for the first time today. It’s run by the same people who run Galaxy Cafe.

I had the Chicken Flautas, and they were good. The Chili Chocolate Cheesecake was fantastic.

Romano's Macaroni Grill, Austin

I sat at one of the tables in the bar. There were a couple young guys sitting at the bar. One was chatting with a waitress. He asked her “When are you getting married?” She replied, “I’m not getting married. I don’t want to get married.” He said, “Yeah, I don’t believe in marriage. I can’t even eat the same cereal every morning for a week.”

Women = cereal. Yep. Nice.

Maudie's Hacienda, Austin

The Tacos al Pastor are great. Pork and pineapple on corn tortillas. The waiter was pretty cute, too.
