1999 Trip
I went there by myself in 1999 when I was 21. My friend was interning in London, so I hung out with her and her friends one night. London is great — everyone should go. And the people are very friendly and helpful to tourists. Each time I asked for directions, the person would just walk me to where I needed to go! We weren’t allowed in to a club one night, though, because some guy from my hostel I was with had “trainers” on. I took a train to York and met up with a tour group. York is a cool place too. I walked on the city walls, visited the ruins of a castle, had a pint at a little pub and then we went out that night – lots of fun! Drove through Yorkshire and to Hadrian’s Wall, and to the Lake District, which was beautiful. Spent one night in Edinburgh. That was super fun – they are wild! The accents are hard to understand, but I liked them. I then spent a night in Alnwick, Northumberland and toured the castle there (I was supposed to live there for a study abroad trip that got cancelled). Spent my last night in London and had another fun night out.
I can’t wait to go back sometime – soon, I hope!!
