.. with a friend of mine we hear some music so we walk down the block towards it and find Fat Tuesdays is packed and loud. They had a benefit for hurricane Katrina and had dueling pianos, a really fun crowd and lots of beads. So random, so good.

If you can choose, go with “Shane”. He was pretty funny, looking and sounding like Norm MacDonald.

WSS UX team dinner. While we did start talking about work within around 15minutes, it ended shortly thereafter. Chatted about people’s lives, AI, color perception… normal person stuff!

There is a whole area in the back! There is a bar, it’s loungey and pretty chill. Somehow the first time I went here I missed it completely. Maybe it was closed off.

We watched a presentation by some park staff the night we were there, notably “Snoop Froggy Frog” about conservation and various issues facing the park. They must have had a blast making it. In one scene Snoop Frog pulls a reckless driver (who was about to run over a crossing turtle) out of his minivan and gives him a beating while his friend steals the car.

Tidal bores suck. Hard.

A guy working at the Burncoat stop off had really recommended seeing a tidal bore(1) at Truro (he also recommended Rita McNeil’s teahouse, so we should have known something was up). After hanging around Truro for almost an entire day we were totally let down. Tidal bore rafting occurs in areas where there are already rapids. This thing was like 30cm and didn’t even dominate on any unsuspecting birds.

After dinner it was pretty late so we figured it wouldn’t be worth the $6 to go to the Agricultural exhibition / fair. We opted to climb over a fence behind some rides and waltz in. Big mistake. The top of the fence was covered in some pretty nasty tar that ended up all over our hands and on our clothes too. Pretty gross.

After some failed attempts at washing our hands we took in the local scene, touring around the fair, checking out the carneys and the various agricultural displays. The 4H club (heart, health, home, hands) is live and well in Truro apparently. Since it was night time, the stuff that had been sitting out all day was pretty gross. No one thought that it might be a good idea to put some ranch dip away.

If anyone knows how to get tar off of shorts let me know!

On someone’s lawn. Took them for a tour of Nova Scotia and returned them safely.

Started late (around 2 hours before sunset). Hiked up to the top of the cape and found it both gorgeous and windy. We were a bit worried about finding a place to camp for the night where we could build a fire and have our tent stay in place, but we found a few trees that provided us shelter.

Definitely a highlight of the trip.

Spent many hours here one night (until like 5am) betting on plastic horses at “the derby” with a bunch of friends. Had a blast.
