The landscape is unbelievable. If you’re rich enough (I wasn’t) you can also take a hot air balloon at the break of dawn. Really beautiful, and the food’s pretty great. Not many tourists.

Got to see this place to believe it. Fantastic!

But check your ho(s)tel’s cleanliness levels.

Lovely, but overrun with tourists and expensive.

Take a boat out to a nearby island, like Lopud, for peace, quiet, and great seafood.

Nights, there’s a packed live jazz bar, a seafood joint out at the harbour, and a club.

I’ve never been so well-treated on the road, Slovenians are a great, great bunch.

Ljublana is tiny, and charming.

Climb the castle for breathtaking views of the little church on the little island in the middle of the lake.

I liked Split because the hostel I was living in was great. But the waters around the place aren’t so fantastic – best to go to Brac, an island nearby, and the food isn’t too cheap either, although not as expensive as in Dubrovnik. There’s a bakery open really, really late, grab a snack after nightswimming; but beware the local boys – too darned “friendly”.
