Hong Kong in 3 days
I had wanted to go to Hong Kong since I heard about a non-stop flight from Newark. A friend asked me to go with her on a Tuesday at noon and we left that Thursday morning. I thought she had been there before because she acted like she knew all about it. After we got there, she confessed she had never been there and we didn’t have a hotel reservation until the next night so we needed to find a place to stay. I must say the hotel desk was not entirely kind to two women traveling together, but we stayed in the airport hotel that night and it was lovely.
We got a cab with an english speaking driver who took us to the night market. Lots of great buys, but they were working on the sewer lines. The smell was the hardest thing for me to get used to, I came back saying if you rate smell on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst, this was a 21. I was hoping this was just this particular place but we would find later the smell of diesel, fish, people, and dead animals just don’t add up to a marketable odor.
The next night we stayed in Kowloon at the Sheraton, very nice. Shopping near our hotel was amazing. We made the mistake of getting into a cab with a driver who spoke no english but we survived. The next day a typhoon was headed for Hong Kong to arrive withing three days. Being from Florida, we knew we had to leave the sooner the better. That took two days but we made it.
